Finding the perfect site for a rustic wedding in the Garden State can be ironically difficult. I have read so many posts on the message boards by frustrated brides with their hearts set on a barn wedding that I have decided to do a post specifically dedicated to Barns and Rustic locations throughout NJ. My first bit of advice is to think through your rolodex of friends or family members that may own a farm. If you are one of the lucky few that has someone, this is the simplest solution and may greatly reduce the restrictions typically involved with rental facilities. If not, here are a few options to explore:
Bayonet Farm is a public park owned by Holmdel Township. There are two barns on the farm that are available for rental until 11PM/ 12PM. Electricity and lighting are available in both barns, however there is no A/C or heat in either barn and portable heaters are not allowed. The barns do have very large double doors that have good air flow and one of the barns has ceiling fans. One of the barns is equipped with restrooms and the other is not. They do allow mobile units and “Johnny on the Spot” is great for events like this (they offer portable trailers equipped with air conditioning and heat, hand soap and hand towels, waste-baskets, hot and cold running water, baby changing station, indirect lighting, roof vents, and exterior lighting) There are no kitchens and cooking is not permitted inside the buildings, so caterers will need extension cords and water for cooking.
Please be advised that there is no smoking at Bayonet Farm.
Hageman Farm has a beautiful barn available for wedding and reception rental that dates back 1876-7. The barn has been completely renovated to its 1800s grandeur. The design of the barn represents an interesting combination of Dutch, English and Victorian design styles and there are no other barns like it anywhere else in the World.
* Please note : Hageman Farms is currently temporarily closed for renovations.

Unionville Vineyards offers a gorgeous Tank Room for groups of up to 80 cocktail style/ 50 sit down, seven days a week, twelve months a year, until 11:00 PM. The winery Tank Room floor space can also be combined with their Cave Room or Tasting Room for larger events and the facility rental fees are charged by the hour for use of a single room or multiple room combinations. In the Cave Room, wine barrel tables and stools are set up in a unique stone walled room along with a wine bar. The old carriage room doors in the Cave Room open onto lawn and a beautiful view of the vineyard (particularly at sunset). If you are hosting an event of 200 or more, tents can also be set up on the lower lawn. If you are attracted to the Tank Room and are holding an event larger then the Tank Room accommodates, the diversity of locations on the property allows you to host your event amongst the beautiful outdoor scenery of the winery, while also having access to the Tank and Cave Room floor areas for a cocktail hour and dancing.
If you wish to hold your ceremony in the winery by a great view of a vineyard, there is also a mansion available as a hide-a-way for Brides and their Bride’s Maids to use before the ceremony so that wedding parties have their own private space.
The Historic Prallsville Mills is a Historic Grist Mill, a beautiful event venue located in Stockton, NJ. The Prallsville Mills provides Indoor Seating to accommodate 150 people maximum. Outdoor Seating under a separately rented tent (through Brillman’s) can accommodate 225 people. Although the venue is historic, it is heated on the main and upper level and provides air conditioning on the main level for the warmer summer months. The Prallsville Mills offers a traditional 10 hour rental period, providing access to the Mill, the Grainery, Kitchen and Powder Rooms. The River House provides an elegantly lined tent adjacent to the Historic River House and boasts beautiful views of the D&R Canal and the Delaware River while providing an elegant and unique setting for your Wedding. The site also has space for an outdoor ceremony in 2 locations, each with their own unique backdrop. The 1850’s River House includes the use of the elegantly lined tented structure, which features a fabric linen tent ceiling, elegant chandeliers, tent flooring, round seating tables and one set of basic white folding chairs, which may be used for your ceremony, reception or both. The tented event space is adjacent to a beautiful historic river house, which includes a first floor bridal suite, indoor bathroom, and access to the first floor public areas of the house.
One of my favorite things about Prallsville Mills is that it is located very close to the Stockton Inn. Elements of the ceremony or reception can be combined with the Stockton Inn, or it can even be used as a convenient hotel or Bridal Suite.
The 300 year-old historic Stockton Inn is surrounded by floral gardens, waterfalls and classic stone terraces. The beautiful property features: a covered English Garden Patio with 2 beautiful waterfalls, an intimate fireside area for ceremonies in the Stockton Inn Fox Room, an enclosed Glass Dining Room overlooking the gardens and Mural Dining Rooms with cozy fireside dining. Bridal Parties and Guests can also stay in stay in 11 private bedrooms, suites, and studios, most with romantic fireplaces.
Yet another great thing about both Prallsville Mills and the Stockton Inn is that they are located very close to this fantastically interesting bridge for party photos:

For brides willing to travel farer afield, Friedman Farm offers a fantastic large rustic barn. This unique seasonal space is located in the Poconos and boasts a190 feet long, 3-level barn, which seats 180 people comfortably. This property offers you the possibility to have your wedding in a field, in the barn or in their chapel. Friedman Farm allows everything from marriages on horseback, fireworks to hot air balloons. The barn even has a large deck where you can watch the sunset over fields and a lighted creek. Friedman Farm has one hundred and forty acres of property, many of which are rolling fields, with panoramic hilltop views. All of their events are “ala carte”, so there is no set menu or price. Their barn is available for rent during Mid-May through October. The barn is not heated or air conditioned, but they do provide 4 large fans and offer 3 large heaters for rent. The barn is rented on a weekly basis, which is great for DIY set up/breakdown. Time blocks are limited to 5 hours of reception time on the day of the event, not including the ceremony, however included in the price is the use the barn for your rehearsal dinner and/or brunch the following day. There is no kitchen so caterers must bring all of their own equipment. The barn does have men’s and women’s restrooms. Tables, chairs, dance floor, heaters, and outdoor sound systems are available for rent. The barn is equipped with plenty of lighting, chandeliers, torches and sconces, but all additional decorating is the responsibility of the renter.
Please be advised that all alcohol served at this venue must have a Pennsylvania State Seal and be served by a Pennsylvania State Licensed bartender. Candles and open flames are not allowed in the barn, but they do allow battery operated candles.
